Have Copper IUD, On Noriday, Planning For Removal. Suggestions?

Hi, I have had a copper IUD in place since Jan 2012. My periods were 14 days in length and asked my doctor for a solution e.g. to take it out as i only had a 2 day period before i had anything. Previously been on pills including noriday but came off due to spotting. was on Yasmin for 2.5yrs but came off as last 6months started getting bad headaches . Now i am on noriday and was told to take 1 pill to get a 5-7day period and 2 pills a day to get 2-4. First month only took one to see how i went, period lasted 7 days, stopped now started again only 3 days after finishing. thinking of taking IUD out. what do you suggest? Thanks

As you are not comfortable with pills you should opted IUD.
Copper IUD some times causes this type of prolonged periods initially but as you have it since Jan 2012 you should remove it to prevent long term complication like Anemia.
You should try Hormonal IUD as copper & hormonal IUDs work in different ways. With a copper IUD, a small amount of copper is released into the uterus.
This type of IUD does not affect ovulation or the menstrual cycle. Copper IUDs prevent sperm from being able to go into the egg by immobilizing the sperm on the way to the fallopian tubes.
If an egg does become fertilized, implantation on the wall of the uterus is prevented because copper changes the lining of the uterus.

With hormonal IUDs, a small amount of progestin or a similar hormone is released into the uterus. These hormones thicken cervical mucus and make it difficult for sperm to enter the cervix. Hormonal IUDs also slow down the growth of the uterine lining, making it inhospitable for fertilized eggs.
It may change your period.
