Hi, I suppose you have been taking medical treatment for chronic sinusitis. The sense of smell goes because in sinusitis the air does not go till the upper part of the nasal cavity which has receptors for smell. Your treatment makes the nasal cavity clearer and smell returns. With time the edematous tissue in the upper part of nasal cavity should chronic changes and may result in polypoidal changes which do not revert fully with medical treatment. Also severe deviation of nasal septum if it is S shaped can result in both sides showing narrowing in the upper part and thus anosmia. A surgical correction for these changes may or may not revert the smell but you need to discuss these things before hand with doctor if you are going for surgery only for anosmia. Regards
