Have Dizziness. Doing Brandt-daroff Exercise. Similar Problems Appear In Family. Vertigo Inner Ear Trouble?

I am dizzy a lot of the time. It is not constant but have the problem more often than not.
Most noticeable when outside and walking. Seems to start when I stand up.
Outside I seem to be walking almost in a dreamlike state with vision swimming - unfocussed. A bit like coming on land from time at sea.
Occasionally have to take small side step to retain balance.
Doing Brandt-Daroff exercises and do not seem to develop the symptoms so probably exercises ineffectual.
My mother appears to have had similar problems, and both my sisters report the same sort of things. Very hard to describe. Most debilitating. Have to sit down and consequently doing a lot of reading!
My doctor says vertigo - inner ear trouble but doesn't seem to conform to traditional vertigo as I understand it.
Be grateful if you can consider what this really is.
I am 78 Y.O. about 5 foot 6 nches, 75 kg. Health reasonable otherwise for an old bugger!

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
You are having it seems high BMI (body mass index).
You need to consult your doctor and get check up for your blood sugars , blood pressures and thyroid status.
Because what you explained does not seems to be a vertigo. You need a physician check up .There can be many causes for the vertigo or the dizziness .
You might have had vertigo earlier but now it does not seems to be the same
In doubt do reply.
