Have Enlarged Thyroid With Nodules. Took Levothrox Causing Lower TSH. Throat Hurts. Cause?
Hi I have an enlarged thyroid with nodules, i am told the nodules large enough they can correctly ,mesure. was put on levothrox 6 months ago. just went to the doc on mon of this last week. she did a blood pannel the levothrox caused my tsh # to go lower. my throat hurts and my glands feel big. what would cause this? and can it be corrected with another medicine?
Hi thanks for your question. Enlarged thyroid with nodule do occur in hypothyroid state. The dose of thyroxin you received might be slightly higher than the dose you needed, that is why it has reduced your TSH to very low level. The dose of thyroxin your taking could be tapered depending upon the response of TSH.The enlarged gland could be due hypothyroidism or it could be due thyroidits (inflammation of thyroid) which is also causing pain in your throat. If the enlarged gland is due to hypothyroidism there is no other drug to control it. It will get controlled with appropriate dose of thyroxin .However if thyroiditis is the cause then you need more medicine in addition to thyroxin to control your enlarged gland and pain throat. Hope this answers your question
