Have Had Fowl Smell In Urine And Noticed Mucus Blood. Thought To Be Menopause. Suggest?

Hello
I have had a fowl smell to my urine for the past 2 - 3 Weeks and it hasn't changed I'm finding I spray the toilet with air freshener because of how bad the smell is
I have noticed over the last 2 Days that I am now losing mucus blood when I go to the toilet, I have never had either of these symptoms before and I am 45 yrs old - I thought it maybe the start of Menapaus
I noticed my last period 2 Weeks ago I did have cramps
Kind Regards

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

I had gone through your query and understand your concern.

There are many causes for Foul smell in urine.
Mucus blood may be due to your menopause.
Cause may range from simple DEHYDRATION to CANCER.
But foul smell in urine is to be investigated.
Some possible causes at this age are
1. Dehydration- With dehydration, urine is more concentrated and it may cause foul or ammonia smell.
2. Diabetes- It may be symptom of undiagnosed diabetes. So check your blood sugar both Fasting and postprandial. if you have diabetes, then you need to take Anti diabetic drugs
3. Urinary tract infection- infection can be anywhere from kidney to urethra.
Identification of causative organism is essential.
It can be bacterial or fungal.
I advise you to Urinalysis, Urine culture and sensitivity and urethral swab.
4. CANCER- As you have foul smell in urine and mucus blood, it may be due to Cervical cancer or Cancer in urogenital tract ( including endometrium, vaginal cancer)
I advise you to go for proper Gynecological examination. If any growth is there, then biopsy and tissue examination is necessary.

Please do the above said investigations and review with a gynaecologist.
Hope this helps.
If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.
