Hello Nisha,
There is no special eating care needed for a herpes infection. Herpes is caused by the
herpes simplex virus or
herpes zoster virus (
shingles). The 2nd being a reactivation of the
varicella zoster virus (
chickenpox) later on in adult life. I do not know which of the two affections you mean.
If we take the first affection i.e the herpes simplex virus infection you will have mostly cutaneous manifestations of vesicula non tender/ painful lesions (blisters) around the oral, genital or gluteal regions mostly. Can affect other areas like the brain, eyes, trunk etc. Herpes is a sexually transmitted infection or can be transmitted by human contacts (skin to skin). Barrier protection methods can be used to prevent spreading to other non infected individuals. Once someone is affected by the herpes, there is always risk of recurrence as patient infected for life. The use of antivirals orally or topical can be helpful in alleviating immediate symptomatic herpes infection.
There are two types HSV 1 and HSV 2 and each of them do affect particular areas of the body.
Herpes infection is highly associated with an immunosuppressed state cancer, used of immunosuppressive drugs,
diabetes etc
So, i will advise your friend to meet a doctor so he can tell him more about the illness and propose the management in place.
But there is no cause for alarm regarding the diseases as he can live comfortably at his home with people without necessarily affected them.
Herpes infection is not a very fatal diseases except when it touches special areas of the body like the eyes, brain,
meninges and when it affects newborns.
Hope this helps!!!
