Have Hiatal Hernia, Woke Up With Intense Pain In Upper Abdomen, Extreme Diarrhea. Is This Hernia Attack ?
I have hiatal hernia . I was woken up on Sunday with intense pain in my upper abdomen . It felt like someone was literally squeezing my insides right under my chest . The pain last little over an hour and then subsided. But periodically throughout the rest of the day I would get the pain back but only for a few seconds. Also, as soon as I would eat, I would get extreme diarrhea ... extremely liquid. Could this have been a hiatal hernia attack?
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
With the available described symptoms, you are most likely suffering from Acute viral gastroenteritis.
Presence of abdominal pain along with watery diarrhea suggests the diagnosis.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ gastroenterologist and should go for thorough check up.
You should also go for complete blood count, serum electrolytes, renal function test.
You should take complete antibiotic course, probiotic and antispasmodics.
You should maintain your hydration by taking potassium rich solutions.
Avoid milk and all milk related products.
As such there is no correlation between hiatal hernia and gastroenteritis.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
These events do not appear related to hiatus hernia.
You have not mentioned your age or gender - EKG may be necessary / heart and stomach symptoms are often mistaken for each other / presence of one does not exclude other.
Diarrhoea may be due to anxiety, infection and so on. Get the stool examined.
Anti-secretory agents can help.
Enough fluids are a must - take care to avoid dehydration
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
