Hi there.

A person with pre-diabetes can present with symptoms of hypoglycemia before overt diabetes manifests. That's how you get weakness in legs and light headedness. So please get your sugars tested by 'EXTENDED ORAL GLUCOSE TOLERANCE TEST' which is different that the routine OGTT. This test will clarify what happenes to your sugars after sugar load and why do you develop symptoms of low sugars. Also HbA1c test is a must. Any reading above 5.7% will warn you of possibility of developing diabetes in future for sure.
The symptoms can be taken care now by not consuming any direct sugar, white rice, white bread or sweet tasting items as they directly increase the possibility of these hypoglycemic symptoms with acute surge of insulin secretion.
Get back with your HbA1c and Extended OGTT reports for further guidance. Take care.

General & Family Physician Dr. Syed Zia Hussain's  Response
Hi there,
Thank you for writing to us.
The answer to your question about low blood glucose is that you are not having a low blood glucose level as far as the textbook definition of a low blood glucose is concerned.
A person who has a low blood glucose usually has a blood glucose level that is less than 60 mg/dl.
Your blood glucose of 110 is pretty good but if it goes lower than say 60 or 70 then definitely you are having low blood glucose.
Having said all that, some people feel better when their blood glucose is slightly on the higher side like you mention.
If you do feel better with a slightly higher blood glucose like 120 to 130, then there is no harm in maintaining your blood glucose level at that range by taking frequent snacks.
Plus with your symptoms that you are having I would also recommend that you should see if you are using the CPAP well and you are getting a good quality sleep because sometimes a poor quality sleep can also cause one to have symptoms that you are having at the present moment.
Regards
