Have High Blood Pressure And Mild Dementia. Had A Hysterectomy Earlier. Is A Pacemaker Required And What Should Be The Concern?
My mother is 79, her only health issues to date are high blood pressure and mild dementia. She had a successful major surgery 4 years ago. A hysterectomy to remove a very large benign tumor. Recently she has fainted and is low energy. She had an echo and blood work. What is next for her. If she needs a pacemaker what should i be concerned with? a left bundle branch ( that has recently has goneaway)
Hi, Welcome to HCM, Fainting and low energy could be due to various reason, specially in an old woman who is on anti-hypertensives. lack of proper food, sleep, sudden change in posture, Blood pressure medicines, etc are very common causes. If fainting happens recurrently, then cardiologist have to assess her for suitability and benefits for pacemaker . Pacemaker will maintain the synchrony of atrium and ventricles. And when filling of chambers would be good, there would be proper blood circulation to brain. Only left bundle branch block is also not sole indication for pace maker. Every procedure has its advantages, if done in a right candidate. if the cause of fainting is some other factor, it is not going to help her. i would advise you to take her to cardiologist, who will decide after assessing her completely. You must feel free to discuss with her doctor, about its indications, what you should expect after the procedure etc. Dr H Hamdani
