Have Hypothyroidism, Diagnosed With Low Pressure Glaucoma. Using Eye Drops. Worry?
I have hypothroidism and was diaganosed with low pressure glucoma 15 years ago, have been using drops for all that time. Saw a new consultant and he says he doesn t think I have glaucoma and to stop eye drops and see him in 6 months. Can this be so and should I stop and if I do what could be the consquences. Really worried.
Dear user Hello Low pressure glaucoma also called as normal tension glaucoma is a clinical variant of glaucoma characterized by all the features of glaucoma but associated with intraocular pressure in the normal range. Low pressure glaucoma is usually a diagnosis of exclusion, where other causes resembling like glaucoma are excluded. Now with the availability of recent investigations like Retinal nerve fibre analysis by using OCT, HRT, GDx , now the prognosis of glaucoma can be told very easily depending on the results of the test. I suggest you to consult glaucoma specialist who can advise relevant investigations according to your case profile and diagnose or exclude low pressure glaucoma.
