Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Have I Damaged The Surgical Site That Hurts After An Injury?
I had back surgery(partial discectomy l5s1) in June. Today I fell down about 6 wood steps and landed on the concert squares at the bottom(in the snow). I fell on my left side and it's my right side that's hurting. Now I'm having horrible pain and unable to lift my leg, to a normal level, without assistance and horrible pain. This affects the same side that was botherin me prior to my surgery. Should I call my surgeon in am? Do you think I've damaged the surgical site or possibly just pulled something?
You already had a surgery and its advisable to have enough rest to prevent any complication. You need to consult the surgeon. The site of surgery can be damaged that might lead to sciatic nerve or others leading to pain in legs. Because your case needs examination , so your surgeon might be in a better position after examination whether or not to do some imaging of spine through xray or an MR. Hope this helps.
