Have Inflamed And Swollen Muscles Around The Knee Cap. Have Been Under Training For Marathon. What To Do Now?
Hi, I have recently started training for marathon and picked up running full force after taking a very long break. I have been doing 5 1/2 miles a day and taking maybe a day break during the week. I have gone to have many problems since then: inflamed and swollen muscles around knee cap and had to take a long break. Finally I got new running shoes, started running again and about fourth day my feet and ankels have swollen so much that I can only wear flip flops. Inside of my right ankle is worst. I can barly tuch it and also there is small red dots on swolen areas. They are not itchy, just there. I'm having trouble walking or even touching those muscles inside of ankle. Do I need to stop running?
Hello. Thanks for writing to us. The swollen muscles around the knee cap are likely to be due to an overuse of the muscles. Rest and hot fomentation with mild pain killers will help in relieving the symptoms. You can also use an elastic knee brace for relief.
