Have Itching And Rough Patches In Hands, Hot Fluxhes. Tried Antihistamines. Recommendations?
I have what I believe is called menopausal formication which is localised to my hands only, itching has caused very thick rough patches from the continuous scratching, one hand is only affected on the thumb and the finger next to it and the other hand is the thumb, the next finger and half the top of my hand. This itching has started since my hot flushes have stopped (hence why I think it is hormonal). The itching is awful, I have scratched until it hurts and the patch is weeping, I have tried antihistamines but these do nothing and many creams from the chemist but nothing seems to stop it. I have been to my doctor and he has prescribed different creams to but still no joy. Can you recommend anything or should I ask to be referred to a dermatologist? I am 53 years old and started the menopause approximately 9 years ago.
Hello. Symptoms that you have are normal in menopause. At menopause estrogens (female sex hormones)levels in blood are decreased and that causes your symptoms and many more.Usually there is a treatment to improve symptoms but if not improvement ,must be evaluated to give to take the patient estrogens (to increase their levels in blood). You must go to the gynecologist and assess the risks and benefits of to take estrogens, because this treatment has risks. I wish you good health.
