Have Mild Excema. When Scratched Turned Into Huge Welts. On Zyrtec. Still Itching. Could This Be The Cause Of Nuvaring?
I have mild excema which I had under control. All of the sudden a couple of months ago I woke up extremely itchy so much so that I wanted to peel my skin off. When I scratched it immediately turned into huge welts. It has been over two months and I have welts and extreme itchiness everyday. I take Zyrtec to help with the itch but lately that has stopped working. I'm not using anything scented everything I use is hypoallergenic. Could it be my birth control I am on the nuvaring? I also read on the Internet that this could last forever. Please help.
Hi thanks for writing to Healthcare magic. You are suffering from urticaria.Since it has been more than two months it is of chronic type. There are many causes of urticaria .Common are food allergy, any infection in body, drugs. It is also related to some underlying disorder in body like thyroid.A detailed work up is required and better to consult an allergy specalist. You can take levocetrizine at day time and sedative antihistaminic like atarax at night time.Nuvaring is directly not responsible for urticaria, but there may be a chance of devolping infection in genital area during insertion which may cause urticaria. Thanks .Take care.
