Have Mild Low Blood Pressure, Mild Throbbing. Can A Force Of Blood Irritate The Internal Jugular Vein?
Hi, I have mild low blood pressure today it was really bad. I went to bed and kept waking up in shock feeling faint. The last time this happened I think it damaged my right internal jugular vein, because my heart had to work hard to pump blood and now there's a mild throbbing. I got my pressure back to normal, I ate but I am worried about this. Can a sudden force/rush of blood irritate the internal jugular vein and cause the pain I am feeling? This happened about 40mins ago. No distension or swelling just the pain after my waking up shock.
Hi, I can reassure that the blood flow in the internal jugular vein will not damage it irrespective of what the flow is. Your neck pain may be muscular in origin. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB FRCA
