Have Mrsa In Lungs, Had Mrsa Infection In Thoracic Cavity. What's Life Expectancy And Is It Contagious ?
I was told I have mrsa in my lungs. This was after surgery to clean out my thoracic cavity from a mrsa infection 6 months ago. (I had a thoracotomy with decortication for severe emphysema in 2008). My doctor was pretty nonchalant about telling me that I now have bronchiectasis and the mrsa in my lungs, which, I m told, have no treatment. I am female, 64, have never smoked. What does this do to my life expectancy? Also, is my mrsa contagious?
hello chaskidwell
thank you for choosing our forum. since now you have developed bronchiectasis which is a well known complication of emphysema, i would like you to do some postural drainage exercises daily and regularly to prevent accumulation of secretions and secondary infections. physiotherapist may be of help for this.
now about your mrsa, there is nothing to worried about. just ask your physician to add some linezolid or vancomycin antibiotic along with some cephalosporin or beta lactam group of antibiotics. also you can take some mucolytics to thin out sputum and its expectoration.
take proper inhaled medications for your emphysema and prevent secondary infections. get yourself vaccinated for influenza and pneumococcus.
hope this will help you and any further query is welcome
