Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Have Non-sustaining Atrial Tachycardia. On Verapamil. Heart Races Faster In The Night. Feel Hot & Shaky. Suggestions?
I'm on Verapamil 240mgs in the morning & 120mgs in the evening because I have non-sustaining atrial tachycardia. Since 5/5/13 I have been waking about 3am a couple of times a week with a tachycardia of 120-130 bpm. I put this down to eating chocolate. In the past few days without chocolate it is still happening. I have made an appt with my GP for 6/6/13 but I think I will try & get an appt tomorrow. I have no chest pain or breathlessness but I am tachycardia at present about 100-105 bpm. It makes me feel hot & a bit shaky. What would you suggest. I will be taking 120mgs Verapamil soon. Many thanks Angela
Dear Ms. Angela Thanks for writing to us. When we get up suddenly from sleep, our heart rate tends to get high because of sudden sympathetic activation. Hence this may be normal phenomenon. Since you do not have any shortness of breath/ chest pain I do not think there is anything to panic. If at anytime you have loss of consciousness/ blackout/ sudden unexplained fall, please do see your cardiologist on priority else continue to take your medicines. Avoid coffee/ tea/ alcohol/ smoking/ anxieties. Try meditation. Hope this helps. Sincerely Sukhvinder
