Have Numbness, Tingling And Pain In Hand. No Medication Till Now. What Can Be The Cause?

I've been doing a lot of gardening/landscaping and my right hand goes numb, starting with my ring finger. It is the worst at night when I lay down to sleep. I can not find a comfortable position. It is not a tingling sensation like when your hand falls asleep so to speak. It is actually throbbing and painful. I have been icing and then using the heating pad. Thoughts?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, you may be suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, its entrapment of Median Nerve in the carpal tunnel ( an EMG- NCV test or Electromyography- Nerve Conduction test is recommended for confirmation of this condition) A surgical release of the Flexor Retinaculum at wrist can be curative. The other possibility is of a Peripheral Vascular Disease (especially if you are a smoker) can be confirmed by a Colour Doppler test.
