Have Osteoporosis, GERD. Nexium, Evista Not Helping. Bone Density Test Not Good. Medication For Osteo?
I have osteoporosis and Gerds. Have been on nexium for several years and evista. My bone density test come back each time that the osteo is getting worse. I am 56 years old. I have asked my doctors about taking nexium because I have heard from their ads that it is bad for your bones. I am now off the evista because they feel it must not be helping. The doctor wants me to try Fosamax. I am afraid to try any of the bone medicines, especially Fosamax because it can upset your stomach, and I have so much trouble with my stomach now. So what should I take for my osteo. I take cacium citrate and vitamin D, but the doctor says that isn't enough. What should I try for my gerds? My father takes Rantidine, or is nexium not the cause for my osteo getting worse?
These PPI's are said to decrease the intestinal absorption of calcium leading to negative calcium balance.
Fosamax (alendronate) , an antiresorptive drug is very useful to treat osteoporosis but has severe form of adverse reactions in persons with GERD. So, you can try ZOLENDRONIC ACID preparation as it is given by INTRAVENOUS ROUTE.
Consult an orthopedic surgeon and discuss the issues with him.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day

Have Osteoporosis, GERD. Nexium, Evista Not Helping. Bone Density Test Not Good. Medication For Osteo?
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM. Many clinical trials have shown the detrimental effects of PPI (proton pump inhibitors) like omeprazole , rabeprazole etc on calcium metabolism. These PPI s are said to decrease the intestinal absorption of calcium leading to negative calcium balance. Good day
