Have Pain In Ear With Yellowish Discharge And Blood. Had Glandular Fever. Related?

My friend has an ear ache that could be considered around 7-10 on the pain scale . The outer ear is red and inflamed and he s complaining about some discomfort behind the ear and following down under the jaw line. There is also some yellowish discharge with traces of blood present. Could this also have anything to do with the fact he suffered a bout of glandular fever two months ago?

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding swelling of pinna of ear with blood mixed discharge and pain in and behind the ear of your friend,

Symptoms which you had told are clearly indicating that your friend is most likely having otitis externa with associated post aural lymphadenitis or cellulitis.

to treat it he should take-

(a) Antibiotic.

(b) Clean the ear canal.

(c) Put ear drop containing antibiotic, antifungal and steroid.

(d) Analgesic.
