Have Pain On Pelvic Area On Second Day Of Menstruation, Burns When Urinates. Tubal Pregnancy? Bladder Infection?

Hi on my second day of menstruation, I have a sharp pain on the left side pelvic area. I had a normal bowel movement and when I urinate it burns I also want to add that the area where the urine comes out it doesn't burn, it's feels like the ovaries. I never had an UTI nor a bladder infection in the past. Is that a symptom of an UTI or bladder infection. I am also afraid it may be a tubal pregnancy, I did get my tubes tide 11 years ago. Please advise as what should I do. I was told an ultrasound will determine what it may be.

Hi,

Thanks for the query.

There are a few common causes of this pain. It may be due to a stone in the ureters [the tubes that carry urine from the kidney to the bladder]. You are also having burning while urinating. Stones can cause infection so this is one possibility.

Another reason may be pelvic infection, that is infection of tubes and ovaries that causes pain. It is usually associated with fever, vaginal discharge. So check if you are having these.

The possibility of tubal pregnancy is low but it needs to be ruled out as it is also one of the causes.

I suggest that you first do a urine pregnancy test as early as possible to rule out pregnancy. If it is positive, see you doctor immediately and get an ultrasound to look for tubal pregnancy.

If it is negative, drink 8-10 glasses of water in a day, It helps clear urine infection as well as flush out small stones.

If the symptoms persist you will need a urine examination and an ultrasound of the pelvis and abdomen to determine the cause and you may also need some antibiotics that your treating physician will prescribe for you.

Hope this was helpful. Do not worry as chances of tubal pregnancy are low.
