Have Painful Nipples, No Lumps Felt. What Could Be The Cause?

Hi, I hope your day is going well. A couple days ago my left breast nipple started giving me pain. I felt for lumps but cannot feel anything but when I push in my nipple it really hurts. I'm really scared because everytime you hear stuff it's cancer, cancer, cancer. is there anything else this could be? my one aunt said sometimes her breast hurts when she drinks alot of soda. do you have any idea what it could be?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hi dear,
Pain in a single breast could be due to accidental trauma gone unnoticed or due to some sort of infection if associated with redness. Chances of cancer are less in a setting of pain without lump.
Some females do experience pain in breast after taking birth control pills or injections but tat is also bilateral.
In my view, consult a surgeon and get yourself examined

OBGYN Dr. Rhea Chanda's  Response
Hi,
Unilateral nipple pain is uncommon unless there is some pathology. Most common cause of breast pain is hormonal imbalance .
If you are not finding any lumps yourself,be advised to be examined by a professional. If still then no lump is found then infection needs to be ruled out. a mammogram may be required. Meanwhile apply hot fomentation and ice packs alternately, take primrose oil tablets and vitamin E tablets for a couple of weeks and note any improvement. They help wth myalgia.
