Have Pelvic Fullness And Pain In Cervix Area After Periods. Ultrasound Shows Endometrial Extension To Cesarean Scar. Advice?

I am a 36 year old female who has had two cesarean sections. I recently started having pelvic fullness and sharp pain in cervix area following my period. My periods are also very heavy with clotting, low back pain, and occasional nausea. My doctor had me get an ultrasound which showed endometrial tissue extending into my cesarean scar. She has had her nurse tell me that everything is normal. She also said that there would be nothing to worry about with having another child if we choose to. I worry that the area with the endometrial extension is a weakened area. Is this all normal? I am wondering if I should get a second opinion?

hi and thanks for the question,

With an endometrial extension to a cesarian, it might be difficult to associate the symptoms you are explaining to this process. It might be some how natural that during some healing process, because of inflammation, scar tissue could extend to attain nearby structures.

My worry is about the state of the uterus, signs of abnormal bleeding if present or absent, results of past cervical examinations and smears. All these are of utmost importance to exclude a problem with the cervix itself and the uterus. Presence of chronic pain ca be seen in endometriosis. It might be worth therefore to have a further clinical exam, pap smears, colposcopies and may be endoscopic examinations to actually ascertain with much certainty what is going on.

I suggest you discuss these options with your gynecologist. thanks and kind regards.
