Hi Arun,

There is no such thing like maternal to fetal transmission of the poliovirus. Your friend can conceive without any fear of transmission to the baby.

I hope it is clear to you.

My best wishes to your friend.

Hi Arun,
Thanks for writing in.
Polio will not be transmitted to your friend's child because it is not a condition which runs in families. It is acquired from the environment in children. I would suggest that your friend takes all steps to ensure that her child is immunized against polio. This would involve giving the oral polio vaccine at birth, 6 weeks, 10 weeks and 14 weeks. The child must also receive polio drops at every camp that is held by the government.
Hope this helps

Hi welcome to HCMForum. polio myelitis is a contageous disease infect only below the age of five.
the infected person is not infectious in her adult age. so if she carries also not infectious to her
children. now polio is completely eradicated except some sporadic cases. but the child born should be
given oral polio vaccine to prevent the polio. thank you.
