Have Red Pimple With Yellowish Pus In Size Of Quarter On Upper Thigh. Cannot Sit. Remedy?

Hello Doctor Sam. I am a female and 2 days ago I thought I was developing a pimple on my lower bottom/upper thigh. It now is the size of a quarter it was a mound with redness all around with a white tip looking like whitish/yellowish pus. I cannot sit down. I've taken 3 hot baths with epsom salt and it hurts like it want to burts any second. I'm not popping it on my own-in fear of infection. I am going to the E.R. in the morning/afternoon. Is this wise and what do you think it could be? Thanks.

Hi,

Going to the ER is the best thing you can do. What you have is most probably a boil that has become infected and now there is pus inside it. This needs to be drained so that the pus does not cause any further problems. The surgery is a simple outpatient procedure and will be done in local anesthesia. There is no need to worry.

Hi Thanks for using HCM.

The swelling you had suggests sebacious cyst. This will burst open on its own to remove the pus(yellow / white colour) if you or no one intervenes it. If it is other swelling and increases in size with severe pain then we have to Drain them.
Now you can give warm compression on it. Once it bursts open there won't be any pain. Take anti inflamatory drug like NSAIDs whic will reduce pain also.
Once drained then you can start antibiotic and not befoore that (chances of antibioma). Hope I answered your question. Wish you good health . Take care.
