Have Stage 4 Cancer. Lungs Report Showed Spot On It, Going To Take Radiation. Is The Treatment Correct?
My 91 year old Dad has stage 4 cancer of right tonsil . Now there are 3 spots showing up on his lung and one in his liver. They are going to start radiation on his tonsil to hopefully shrink the tumor so that he has less chance of aspiration. We have been told that there is no cure for the lung and liver. How long do you think he might have and what can we expect for quality of life?

When you grow old, your immune system also keeps becoming weak and every year you blood pressure also increases etc. 90 year old is not like 30 year old under same condition.
For advanced cases of lung and liver cancer treatment is mainly palliative.
Radiation is appropriate treatment for him because of his age and stage of cancer. Cancer metastasis is present (seems to be spreading to other organs like liver and lungs).
5 year survival is not very good.
