Have Swollen Leg. Had A Fall Earlier. No Test Or Medication Till Now. What To Do?

I took a bad fall onto cement..twisting my leg while my foot was stuck. in a cement block and hitting both knees on the cement..the left let took the worst of it..i finally went in 5 days after the injury because the pain went from bad to worse. He did not take xrays but after examination his diagnosis was 'sprain and strain of knee and leg. It is about 8 days now and it is looking and feeling worse..my entire leg including upper thigh, calf, ankle and foot are extremely swollen..the skin is stretched to the point is has a strange shine ...and a secondary red pricky rash is now over the top of the black and blue areas....should an xray still be done? Is this normal..he suggested I pulled or torn the ACL and may have 'pulled' the muscle....I am a tough cookie and can take a lot of pain but this is pretty painful What should I do..thank you ahead of time for any advise you can give me..

Hello,
thanks for using health care magic

In as much as there is a trauma, it is likely that there is an infection
of the skin that might have develop from a scratch during your accident.
The appearance of a characteristic shining skin which is tense and painful
is in favor of the skin infection or cellulitis.

Cellulitis is particularly serious and needs to be hitted thoroughly with antibiotics and rest without which the infection will spread rapidly leading to severe complications.

Ligament tear or fractures are easily diagnosed because they present with severe pain immediately following the trauma with associated loss or reduced function of the part affected.

It will be thus important to re-visit your doctor for a review.

Hope this helps you.
Best regards
Dr Achuo
