Have Two Ovarian Cysts, Experiencing Irregular Periods. Is It Normal To Have Foul Smelly Discharge?
Hi, my ob-gyn told me that I have 2 ovarian cysts May 5, 2013. She didn't seem too concerned.
I had a period from March through the end of May, it would be light and heavier at times, but never went away. In June I had no bleeding at all. Then, the first of July I started having brown discharge, it got heavier in the week, but stayed brown. Then it turned a more normal red, but the odor from it smells like rotten meat, it's horrible! It's been 2 weeks like this, fairly heavy periods. I'm to see my ob-gyn for a second scono-gram next Thursday (July 25th). Is the foul / rotten smell normal? I've missed periods before, but never had anything like this.

The foul-smelling discharge is related to old blood and the way it smells making its way out of the uterus. This is the most likely explanation. This could also be related to an infection of the uterus. A better plan for someone like you would be to treat you with antibiotics for a week and then take you to the OR for a hysteroscopy / D&C.
