Have Type 2 Diabetes. Weight Loss, No Appetite. Taken Reglan. Why Was Meglu Prescribed?

Hi,
My mother has type 2diabetes and has lost weight do to no appetite. Dr tried reglan for 15 days but didn't help. Now wants to put her on meglu for 4 weeks to increase appetite. I have never heard of this drug and was wondering what the side effects were before filling RX. It show it's ingredients are compared to metformin. She is already on byetta and insulin.why would she need another diabetic drug?

Hi, thanks for the query to H.C.M.C.
Type 2 diabetes usually not require insulin and this type of diabetes is in obese persons.
Anyway the problem is this that your mother is losing weight due to loss of appetite according to you.
2nd query is that why doctor prescribed "meglu" as she is already on anti diabetic drugs.
As far as concerned about weight loss that was due to use of byetta.
byetta when given to a patient in type 2 it causes weight loss and that is the part of this treatment to regulate weight of patient.
Same thing happen in your mother case so need not to worry.
Now a days many doctors prefers to use metformin in combination with byetta and results are very nice .
For loss of appetite you can use many appetizers after consultation with a doctor as many sugar free products are available in market.
Have a good luck for speedy recovery of mother.
