Hello,
First of all you're doing very well. It's not very clear whether 5.6 is your glycosylated hemoglobin or your fasting glucose in mmol/L. Either is great! Exercising is an essential part of diabetes treatment. The 'no carbs' diet is not ideal though. You should stay away from simple carbohydrates like sugar but you can eat 'complex' carbohydrates contained in fruits, although in moderation. You should avoid saturated fat and eat a lot of fiber.
Strict blood pressure control is even more important than glucose regulation regarding the risk of complications in patients with diabetes.
A biochemistry panel will reveal possible lipidemias, which is another risk factor for cardiovascular events.
I suppose you don't smoke... If you do then consider cutting down on smoking. This would prove to be even more beneficial than any medication!
And a final word to clarify things even more: in diabetes treatment, whatever works is right! My suggestions involve the quality of your diet but are not obligatory if your diet contains all kinds of nutrients and -most of all- works fine for you!
Kind Regards!
