Have Upper Eyelid Coloboma From Birth. Extreme Dryness In Eyes. Related?
I was born with an upper eyelid coloboma. I'm 27 years old now and have recently been experiencing extreme dryness of my eyes, but is more severe in the eye with the defect. I know it's a long shot, but wasn't sure if the congenital defect could be related to the current dryness/pain etc I am experiencing now, after all this time..

Hello welcome to health care magic Thanks for query You have upper eyelid coloboma which is congenital..
In this condition due to exposure to air even when eyes are closed,,,dryness of cornea and conjunctiva will occur,,cornea will damage(corneal xerosis) and it will case vision loss in due course of time.
You have to use artificial tears to make cornea and conjunctiva wet..and also keep patching the eye in the night..and during sleep. If the coloboma is small enough then you can manage with artificial tears ... If the defect is large then go for surgical correction.. There is a modified Hughes procedure for this.. Consult Ophthalmologist for further suggestions..
Go for CT skull and orbits.,why because the condition is associated with other congenital anomalies.
Hope you got answer from me. Thank you Dr.siddartha
