Hi !

Thank you for your query.

I think you need to know that it is a kind of autoimmune disease and it will spread in absence of adequate treatment . Well PUVA therapy remains the mainstay for vitiligo .

I think you should see a dermatologist for this problem and get yourself evaluated.

Hope you are satisfied with the answer.

If you have any further queries feel free to ask.

Wish you good health.

Take care.

Dermatologist Dr. Neera Kataria's  Response
Hi, thanks for your query.

Vitiligo is a poorly understood condition as far as the cause is concerned.

It is considered as a autoimmune disorder in which the immune cells in the skin identify melanocytes(the pigment producing cells) as foreign cells and destroys them. Heredity may be a factor because there's an increased incidence of vitiligo in some families.

In your case the disease process is active and spreading. There is no permanent cure for this but it can be controlled with treatment and medication.

Treatment options include topical corticosteroids, topical immunomodulators like tacrolimus or pimecrolimus, PUVA therapy, narrow band UVB therapy, skin grafting, suction blister, tatooing, melanocyte transfer etc.

You may consult a dermatologist and discuss the best suitable treatment option for you.

Hope this helps you.
