Having Clogged Port, Inserted Temporary Access In Leg, Having Cough. Serious?
Hi Dr Sree, my father has a clog in his permanent port. Currenlty they have inserted a temporary access in his leg. In addition he has a productive cough for the past three weeks. Could you please advise if they will be able to unclog the port or will he have to get another location? Also the cough, should he be alarmed that it could be a clot traveling? thank you
Dear friend, welcome to HCM !
A blocked permacath needs to be removed and another placed if need continues.
Sometimes we may try intra catheter thrombolysis with tPA/ STK. Success rates vary.
What was it inserted for? (underlying condition?)
Productive cough is unrelated. Will need to be evaluated clinically and with an Xray chest.
A 2Decho can look into the heart chambers to see for clot propagation. is the cath in the neck or near collarbone?
Take care and please keep me informed of your progress.
Good Luck !
I hope to have answered your query satisfactorily.
