Having Cold, Cough, Running Nose And Sneezing. Medicines For Cure?
Hi, my daughter 6 months old having normal cold and cough/running nose and sneezing, I didn't find any over the counter medicine and the store physician says there are no medicines to cure medicines for infants, please help and suggest, I would any way consult doctor if the cold becomes heavy, but as of now need some remedies/medicines to cure before it gets worse.
thanks for being online and helping peple - you are great
Your pharmacist was correct in stating that there are no curative medicines for a common cold. This is because the problem is self-limiting, and is caused by a virus. You may try oral paracetamol for discomfort and feverish constitution, saline nose drops in case her nose is getting blocked, and application of Vicks VapoRub to her pillow so that the vapours help her to sleep. Vicks must NEVER be applied directly on the child as advertisements are known to show.
Antibiotics are useless. Cough mixtures are unsafe at the age of 6 months. There are herbal cough remedies available all over the world. If you are in India, and if your baby has a cough in addition to the cold, you may try Zecuf, Adulsa or Koflet for this purpose, but believe me, the cold will not respond to a cough syrup.
apply milk theory as thechild need only breast milk till 2 years and n milk after that if you add milk and diary in diet childstart with various problems withdraw milk and diary proteins from diet add other foods if need only cpm syp an be given according to age and lcal application of neomycin h ointment in nose and saline nasal drops locally in nose to control it

Having Cold, Cough, Running Nose And Sneezing. Medicines For Cure?
Hi, Thanks for writing to health care magic. We prescribe normal saline drops for babies to clear the nose in case of stuffed nose which poses difficulty in breathing. For infants it is always better to get them examined by a doctor before starting on any treatment. Self treating your babies could some times be dangerous. Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care. Dr Y V Siva Sankara Murty M.D.(Pediatrics) Associate Professor of Pediatrics
