Having Cold, Cough, Throat Infection And Fever At Least Once In 2 Months. Suggest Medicine To Improve Immunity Power?
Hi doctor, My daughter is 26 months old and she is attending fullday child care.she is often getting sick like cold, cough, throat infection and fever.once in a month or once in two months she is getting sick.is there any possibility to prevent this by boosting her immunity power? Can i give her any supplement like vitamin c or multi vitamin?my pediatrician has given me this but i heard it is not good to give these supplement regularly.she is a picky eater.
Hi and thanks for the query,
the issue with recurrent throat infections in children is the possibility of developing complications. The commonest complication is rheumatic fever, that attacks the heart and joints of the child. Its important to consider two scenarios in the analysis of this child. It might be that the drugs prescribed are prescribed in inadequate doses, or the drug is inappropriate. another consideration is the Bacterium could be resistant to the particular anti biotic.
However, in most of the cases, there exists a predisposing factor to developing these recurrent infections. The commonest is enlarged tonsils or amygdalae. Diagnosis of these abnormally large glands by your ENT specialist might lead either to prescription of periodic anti biotics to prevent recurrent infections, or reduce risk of rheumatic fever, or surgery.
Consulting an ENT specialist, in my humble opinion, is the best thing to do in making a more reasonable clinical and treatment decision.
Thanks and best regards,
Luchuo, MD.
