Hi Doc, I'm having a lot of lower back pain and am lyrical 150mg twice a day and targin 10mg/5mg twice daily and oxinorm 5mg four times daily I have been taking these for the last 3 week. My problim is I feel sick! Just tonight but it has been going on all evening and am due to take the lyrics and the targin if I don't take them I'll be in agony with my back within an hour as am already late. Doctor, what should I do?

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
If I would be your doctor then I would definitely cut down the unnecessary medicine and switch you over a single potent pain killer tab. instead of giving multidrug therapy, in my opinion single drug therapy is the best way in managing the pain try it you will get good result, have nice day.

General & Family Physician Dr. Nsah Bernard's  Response
Hello Louise,

Thanks for posting on HCM,

Given that the medications targin (generic names: oxycodone/naloxene combination) and lyrica (generic name: pregabalin) can be very addictive together and so should be used with a lot of caution. It is true that they are good for such conditions as chronic back pain and may relieve your symptoms, but getting addicted to them will instead become a problem that will have to be solved as you can not be on those for the rest of your life ( I do not recommend continuous use). Your pain management doctor may advise other treatment options and give you alternative medications or therapies such as physical therapy/chiropractor. If I was to treat you, i will change your medications to equivalents such as tricyclic antidepressants (that can treat both nerve pain and depression that came as a result of the pain) and also antiinflammatory for about 1-2 months. Refer you to a physical therapist for that period until I can see you again in 2-3 months after which I will be able to see if treatment is effective or not.
I also recommend you see a rheumatologist.

Hope this helps
