Having On And Off Fever. Diagnosed As Pneumonia. On Antibiotic. Started Vomiting. Diagnosed As Flu. What Is The Problem?

My nephew is 4, he s been having a fever off and on since Saturday. He went to the ER, they said he had pneumonia , gave him antibiotic , and sent him home. They lowered his fever from over 103. He started vomiting while going to get prescription. The next day, his fever was back, and he was still vomitting. They took him back to ER and they were told he did not have pneumonia, and the dr,took the medication away. They said he had the flu . His fever was about 102, they dropped the temp before releasing him. Today, Monday, his temp is at 102.3, and he s still vomitting. He hasn t ate anything, anything he drinks, he vomits it up. What can be the problem?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Your child is having a viral fever.

For fever give Tylenol every 6th or 8th hourly depending on the presence of fever.

If there is a high grade fever you can do tepid sponging with lukewarm water in addition to Tylenol.

Give plenty of oral fluids and provide adequate rest for him.

For vomitings you can give an anti emetic like ondansetron in prescribed dosage.

If the fever is not subsiding within 48 hours consult again your Pediatrician for the reexamination of the child and for basic investigations to know the focus of infection.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
