Having Patella Tendonitis. Temporary Relief From Injections. Suggestions?

Hi,
I have patella tendonitis. I have had it for about 12-18 months. The pain reduces when I am less active, but never completely goes. I have had one course of tablets (an anti-inflammatry, cant remember the name which didnt seem to work) and one injection (which removed all pain, but when I went back to playing sports a couple of weeks later, the pain returned). Have you any suggestions?
Thanks
Scott

Taking an NSAID such as naproxyn (Alleve-2 tablets twice daily) would help initially but the only "cure" is refraining from activities that cause the pain. I see many athletes with this though who cannot stop sports so the other measure that helps is to purchase a patellar strap as that will apply pressure just below the kneecap, tightening the tendon and taking some of the strain off of it when active.
