Having Redness & Abscess In My Shoulder. I Pull It Out Myself With Insulin Syringe. Blood & Pus Have Extremely Pungent Odor. Any Self Treatment?
my shoulder is red and tender i have had an abcess drained there befor used a newly puchased insuin syringe and drew out several ccs worth of horrible smeling coudy white watery stuff not like normal pus much thinner. got out as much as possible probably most since it turned to not smelly blood, took some penicillin my wife had left over can not afford dr now as i was laid off a week ago. if i take the pwnacilin and keep.it drained and possibly even irrigted will it heal. why does it smell so god awful the smell filled the bathroom and bedroom and only the cat coud tolerate it and seemed to like it. anyhome type remedy would.be great as dr isnt an option except for antibiotic script if needed would.prefer to not have to perform surgery on myself either but will if needed. mostly worried about the smell worst smell ive ever come across like rotten egg and rotten cheese and very pungent. any advice wuld help hot pads? antibacterial ointment? squirt diluted hydrogen peroxide in or a bleach water solufion. and wil the pennicillian help.or just a waste of time and resources?
Fowl smelling pus most often is produced by anaerobic bacteria that do not need oxygen to survive. Also it could be due to a severe infection. However, the main arm of managing an abscess is incision and drainage with clean instruments. The incision should be considerable if not possible to span the total length of the wound. After incision probing should be done and saline or diluted hydrogen peroxide used for cleaning. Dressing should be done regularly depending on the state of wound; twice daily if the wound is very purulent and the frequency reduced as the wound becomes more or less non purulent and clean.
Antibiotics are are not routine for abscesses except in cases of severe infection or fever or signs of spread of the infection. Metronidazole is effective against anaerobes and cloxacillin is effective against staphylococcus which is a common abscess causing germ.
Pus must be drained - but not by a needle / the outlet must be large enough to allow drainage for some more days / otherwise, pus will accumulate again, may form a sinus tract.. You need proper incision and drainage by a qualified surgeon.
You should look for the source - subcutaneous, deep?
You should look for a cause - Diabetes is a common cause...
Penicillin may not suffice
You have not stated your age, gender, personal habits, family history or co-morbidities
In spite of your preferences, there is no alternative to seeing a surgeon
Better be safe than sorry
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
