Having Vaginal Rash Frequently Which Is Very Itchy. Use Resolve (vaginal Thrush Cream) And Canesten. Is It Serious? Prevention And Treatment?

I have been suffering from some sort of vaginal rash for quite some time now. I have used a few packets of Resolve (vaginal thrush cream) from the local chemist but to now avail. The symptoms are still there. Tonight I went for something more expensive, a cream called Canesten. It sort of relieved me for awhile and then later on I get the urge to scratch the skin and the itchiness gets worse as I continuously scratch the area. The itchiness is killing me doctor. The pharmacist almost refused to sell me another one as I told her my predicament. She advised me to see my G.P. who I find it difficult to see because of our schedules. Anyway, the pharmacist reckons I have dermatitis and said I should really consult my doctor.

Dear ginaweir, welcome to health magic.
You should go to your doctor in order to examine you and define the type of infection you have.
If this is not possible, I will assume that you have a vaginal yeast infections and here are some information about it:
- It is a yeast infection which grows in moist areas of our body.
- The chances of having this infection increase if you take antibiotics, are pregnant or if you use contraceptive pills containing estrogen.
- It is not sexually transmitted, so it is not necessary to treat the partner.
- Common symptoms include pain (during urinating or intercourse), Itching and thick whitish vaginal discharge.
- Diagnosis is suspected by the symptoms and confirmed by taking a vaginal swab.
- Topical creams or pessaries are a good treatment but the may cause irritation, so oral antifungals are a good alternative.
- Eating yogurt or even using it in your vagina may relieve itching and may be a good treatment.
- It may be more complicated if you are immune compromised ( pregnant, having diabetes...) and so, treatment may be difficult.
- The following may help prevent vaginal thrush:
1- Wear cotton or silk underwear, which allows moist to evaporate, unlike nylon and other synthetic materials.
2- Wash and dry your underwear thoroughly and change it often in order to prevent dampness.
3- Avoid using feminine deodorant sprays or perfumes.
I hope these words were usefull and good luck.
Dr. Ahmed Bahaa.
