Today he measure and it grew again he says he might have fluid in his brain to come back in 6 weeks to measure again. What you think. Please help I m lost and worried. My son is 6 months old and harly sleeps wakes up in a screeching cry every night at 3-5 am every night.
Hi Mr.Steve,
Thank you for posting your query in healthcaremagic.com and giving us this opportunity to clarify your doubts.
Well, increase in the head circumference more than normal and screeching persistent and unconsolable cry early morning are all sinister signs of hydrocephalus (fluid in the ventricles in the brain). The other signs are projectile and forceful vomiting, bulging anterior fontanelle (the soft tissue on the apex of the skull-the area which is soft and not hard like the rest of the skull), and eyes looking persistently downwards. I would recommend you to see your pediatrician or preferably a pediatric neurologist who might do a detailed examination and a few imaging studies to help diagnose the condition.
I hope I have been able to clarify your doubts and helped you to make a decision. I will be always available in case of further doubts. Take care and stay healthy.
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Features of hydrocephalus(fluid in brain) are.
-increase in head circumference.
-irritability.
-excessive cry.
-bulging soft spot.
-poor feeding.
I suggest you to get your child examined by pediatrician so as to evaluate cause,he may need some tests so that proper management will be done.
Hello I have gone through your complaints. As per your complaints , it is mostly hydro cephalus.
They will present with excessive cry, vomitings, decreased acceptance of feeds and faster growth of head size.
The hydrocephalus can be of two types. Communicating or non communicating. According to the rate of growth and presenting complaints your next plan of action will be directed. Now normally head circumference should be around 42- 44 cms. If the rate of growth is more than a centimetre per month of if the head size is more than 47 by now it should be evaluated.
Please kindly follow your doctor and then he will direct you to paediatric surgeon. Few cases will get treated medically and others by surgery depending on cause.
Thank you. Good day
HI
Thank you for your query
You should get a CT scan of the brain done. If it is fluid inside his head, it will be detected. It will also give an indication of its cause and determine the further course. Since your child is only 6 months old, even an ultrasound of the head is possible. That will also help get to a diagnosis. Consult a pediatric surgeon for the same
Hope that helps
God bless you
