Headache, Tightness Around Neck And Shoulders After Taking Lauricidin Monolaurin Supplement. Safe?

I took a herb called lauricidin monolaurin supplement and had headaches and tightness around my head neck and shoulders. I only used a small amount for 2 wks but after 3months of not using the product I sometimes still get these symptoms. Is this product safe and have I possibly done harm to myself. There number is 877 770 7270 they assured me the product was safe. Please tell me what you think. Thanks, Ray

Hello Ray,

This product even though listed as a natural supplement can also have its side effects like any chemical that is introduced in the body. Since it is chemical concentrated in the laboratory (maybe from natural products as the manufacturers claim), they can also come with their side effects as with most pharmaceutical products. Most laboratory processed products always contain components in them that stabilize them given that they are not freely occurring in nature, so when they are extracted from their natural components, they always need to be kept stable for commercial sales later.
Lauricidin is no exception and is known to cause what is known as "die-off effect". A die-off effect, also called a Herxheimer Reaction, occurs when yeast and other pathogens are being killed by the monolaurin. As these bacteria, yeast, and/or viruses die, they can release toxins into the body that may result in flu-like, acne-like, allergy-like symptoms, such as: fever, muscle pain, fatigue, headache, skin eruptions, etc.
I believe, you will need to take some probiotics in order to improve the health of the naturally occurring microbes of your stomach/intestines.
I personally I do not encourage the use of products that do not have a widespread scientific backings (products that are tested by only the manufacturers and marketed). You should also see a doctor to also take a look at your symptoms as they might not necessarily be related to the use of the supplement.

Hope this helps
