my mother is a heart patient.she has been operated for open heart surgery,she has hpn and dm.now she has got some problem blood uria is 15.5 serum creatinine is 135 urine epth cell is ++ serum ferritin is 30 platelet count is 259 hb is 9.1 tlc is 6.2 now her has sugessted injection espogen prefilled 4000 iu inj what is ur opinion about this and kindly tell me the reaction of this injection.

your mother is sufferring from chronic kidney failure secondary to diabetes and hypertension.
Espogen is erythropoetin hormone that is normally secreated by kidney and promotes hemoglobin synthesis that is blood formation. in condition of kidney failure natural production of this hormone is decreased and we have to supplement it from outside..
usually it is quite safe except some local redness at injection site, muscle pain or joint pain that subsides gradually, uncommonly sometimes there is severe breathing problem, bronchospasm
or low bp in that case immediate physician consultation is required but uncommon with new molecules which are prepared by recommbitant technology
