Heavy Bleeding, Chest Pain, Anemic. On Birth Control Pill. Should I Go For Hysterectomy?
HI, I'm 45 years old and January was the first time I took BC pills. My bleeding was so heavy that I became anemic. The BC pill (Junel) worked fine for 2 months but then I started spotting. Dr. put me on Portia. It helped control the bleeding, but I gained weight within a couple of months. Plus I also started having chest pains. After a month of chest pains, I took myself off the Portia just to see if that was causing the pains. Right now I'm on my 3rd day and I'm still bleeding heavily. I talked to my dr who asked me about a hysterectomy. Is it too soon to think about that?
The decision to have a hysterectomy should take it account some key issues like your desire to get another child, possibility of using alternative birth control method, the degree or impact of the bleeding on your daily activities and the opinion or decision of your husband.
It is not a rare phenomenon however to bleed while on pills. A complete examination of the chest and abdomen, and probable a chest X ray could be useful. The chest pain might not be related to what is experienced on the uterus. An abdominal ultrasound to evaluate presence or absence of fibroids. If present, with severe bleeding, a hysterectomy might be advisable. But the decision should be arrived at after careful discussion between you and your gynecologist. Thanks and kind regards.
