Will Taking Amethyst Stop Periods?

I have Adenomyosis. I took Loestin Fe to stop my period for two months. It was first trial for any type of birth control pill in my life. it did not work . Actually my pain got worse and had vomiting so I stop taking any birth control pills past two months. Before I do hysterectomy I want to try another birth control which will help stopping my period. Hi,

Thanks for the query.

I understand that your problem is adenomyosis and you are not able to tolerate birth control pills. All combined birth control pills cause nausea and vomiting. Some women get adjusted to the pills after 1-2 cycles. Loestin fe contains ethinyl estradiol and norethidrone. You may try other pills containing mestranol and norethidrone or ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestral.

You have mentioned that you are 45 years. Birth control pills are not recommended to be used after 45 years as adverse effects are more likely. However you may use them for short term, until you wait for surgery. I suggest that you use only progesterone tablets [medroxyprogesterone twice daily] to control bleeding rather than combined birth control pills as there is less chance of adverse effects. Also estrogen [one of the contents of combined pills] is implicated as a cause of adenomyosis, so its use is not advocated.

Other drugs like tranexamic acid twice daily are also used to control bleeding during periods and do not contain any hormone are safer.

I suggest you discuss these issues with your clinician and switch to progesterone for last 15 days of the cycle or tranexamic acid for 5 days during the cycle to help control bleeding.

Hope this helped.
