Heavy Cough Driving Up The BP. On Mavik. Elavated Pulse After Taking Theophylline For Cough. History Of Hypothyroid. Suggest
I have a heavy cough and am taking Mavik for high blood pressure . Today my doctor gave me a medicine to help stop the coughing because it was driving up my blood pressure. The medicine is Theophylline in liquid form. Two hours after taking it I took my blood pressure and my pulse was 102. Could it be cause by interaction. I am also hypothyroid.

Welcome to HCM,
You are having High blood pressure and Hypothyroidism, Theophylline is known to cause fast heart rate, you may be having spasm of airways that is why it was prescribed to you.
If you have infection and fever that can also cause fast pulse rate.
There is no interaction between Trandolapril and Theophylline.
If you are uncomfortable with theophylline please report it to treating physician and if bronchospasm is there inhalation therapy may be used with minimum side effects.
If infection is there antibiotics and mucolytics may be required.
You can take steam inhalation and by chance if smoking is there please avoid completely.
If problem persist than X ray chest,Lung function test,sputum examination may be required to decide further treatment.
