Hello Doctor/Healthcare Team,
I would like to discuss my father's condition. He is currently in the ICU. These are the symptoms and information that I am concerned about:
- He has had a high fever and chills for the past 3 months.
- He has undergone cancer screenings for various types, but no cancer was detected.
- HIV tests were negative.
- Autoimmune disease tests were negative.
- Microbial culture tests were negative.
- He does not have tuberculosis.
- He requires daily blood transfusions as his body is producing fewer blood cells than it is losing.
- He requires daily albumin due to swelling and fluid in his lungs.
- A lumbar puncture was performed to check for blood diseases, but nothing abnormal was found.
- His skin is dry but his hair is not falling out.
- He has very high inflammation levels.
- His fever and chills symptoms respond well to steroids. When he is given steroids, his fever and chills decrease.
- Body scans do not show any abnormalities.
- He was tested for Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) but it was not detected.
- He was tested for diseases in rheumatology, hematology, immunology, and infectious diseases, but nothing was detected.
Currently, we still do not know the cause of his symptoms, and his condition is critical. If he does not receive continuous blood transfusions and albumin, his life is at risk.
I would like to ask:
- Are there any other tests that can be performed to determine the cause of his symptoms?
- Are there any specialists that you would recommend we consult with?
- Is there any medical literature or case studies that might be relevant to his condition that you can refer me to?
- What are the next steps in his treatment?
Thank you very much for your time and attention to my father's case.
