Hello, I Needed To Get My ParaGuard IUD Removed Today

I needed to get my ParaGuard IUD removed today because it was displaced. I am from the states, but currently in Senegal, and my doctor was unable to answer a couple of questions as they don't frequently insert the ParaGuard version here. My main question is this: the copper wire on the IUD was almost totally eroded. It had only been in place for 3.5 years, and was supposed to last 10. Why did my body erode the copper? Are there any health consequences because of this? Also, does this mean that it would be a bad idea for me to get another copper IUD? My doctor was unable to give me these answers.
