Hello! I recently had a CT scan of my abdomen and pelvis to check for diverticulitis, as I had been experiencing cramping and bloody diarrhea, which has now resolved. I am attaching a copy of the CT scan results, which showed no diverticulitis, however, it did show a complex 4.8 cm right side adnexal cyst. My gynecologist sent me for a follow-up transvaginal ultrasound, and I am attaching a copy of that report. As you will see, it showed two cysts and indicated "low-level internal echoes likely indicating internal debris". My gynecologist has ordered a repeat ultrasound in four to six weeks.
I am 54 years of age and have no abdominal pain and still have regular menstrual periods, however, my last menstrual period started on 11/1/21 and I am still waiting my period to start, although I have menstrual cramping. I do have a history of prior cysts which resolved on their own, the last was a cyst with a septation that resolved in October of 2020.
Unfortunately, I have health anxiety and google medical information, which is not a good combination. I ran across information online about endometriomas and hemorrhagic cysts, and am reaching out to you for some reassurance with regard to the following:
1) Is there anything on either report, particularly the transvaginal ultrasound, which is worrisome?
2) Does the ultrasound report seem to indicate it is an endometrioma or hemorrhagic cyst with the "low-level internal echoes likely indicating debris" language?;
3) I unfortunately ran across some information online talking about endometriomas having a risk of turning cancerous -- is there anything to worry about if it is in fact an endometrioma?
4) If it is a hemorrhagic cyst is that worrisome?
Thank you so much for your assistance!
