Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I’m a 26 year old female. I was diagnosed with hypertension about 5 years ago and put on Hydrochlorothiazide and Nadolol (beta blocker) at that time. Since then I have taken them pretty regularly. My doctors have tried to taper me off them in the past but usually my blood pressure rises too high and they decide to just keep me on my regular meds. I just changed insurances and the change hasn’t gone through completely yet and I’m out of my nadolol. My new insurance wants me to start taking propranolol but they can’t fill it until my doctor approves the change and my doctor won’t approve the change until they are listed as my primary provider which won’t happen for another 2 weeks. I’m out of medication now and I’ve been halfing what I had left for the last couple days to make it last. I’m just worried that my blood pressure is going to spike as soon as I stop taking it completely or I’m going to have a heart attack or stroke or something becsuse of the change. What should I do?
